What Are You so Worried About? Learn How to Overcome Worry Like a Boss!

We all do it—you, me, everyone! We overthink, and it leads to unnecessary stress. This often results in insomnia and sleepless nights, which we can all do without. Entire books have been written on how to overcome worry like a boss, and while it might take some effort, it’s completely doable.

Why Do We Worry?

Most of the time, worry is driven by a situation or problem that’s out of your control. It’s something that hasn’t even happened yet and might never actually happen. Does it make sense to drive yourself wild over something that isn’t certain? Something you can’t control or predict the consequences of? Probably not. But we all still do it.

So, How Exactly Do You Overcome Worry?

How to Overcome Worry Like a Boss

First , you need to understand what the problem or situation is and remind yourself that it has not yet happened and may never happen. So, the first question you need to ask yourself is:

  • What is the problem or situation creating your worry?

Next you want to look at is whether the situation is within your direct control and ask:

  • How much control do I have over this situation or problem?

Be honest here. Don’t blame someone else if it’s within your control. If you can control it, you can take steps to change the outcome. If it’s out of your control, let it go. Worrying about things you can’t control, like natural disasters or other people’s choices, is pointless. The only thing you can control is how you respond.

Letting Go and Putting Things in Perspective

Letting go is often easier said than done. To help, put the problem into perspective by asking yourself:

    • On a scale of 1 -10 how likely is this situation or problem to happen? (10 being the highest)
    • What is the absolute worst that could happen?
    • What is the best that could happen?
    • What is the most likely to happen?
    • If it were to happen what are the chances you would be ok within 1 Day, 1 Month or 1 Year?
    • Is there anything you can do to minimize the consequences right now?
    • How will you cope with it should it happen? What will you do?
    • Have you had to cope with a similar situation in the past?
    • What did you do that time?
    • Finally, now that you have looked at the problem or situation causing you worry from all angles how terrible is it actually? (Absolutely Terrible being 10)

Is It Really All That Terrible?

Now that you’ve looked at the problem from all angles, how terrible is it actually? Going through this exercise should help put the situation into perspective. Even if you can’t stop the problem from happening, thinking about it differently changes your emotional response. And that’s key to overcoming worry like a boss.
