Advertise on Google and Setup an Ads Account

How to Set Up Your Google Ads Account and Hand it Over to an Expert

So, you’ve decided to advertise on Google and get your brand in front of the right people? Fantastic decision! Setting up a Google Ads account might seem a bit technical at first, but trust me, it’s easier than it looks. We’ll walk through it step by step. Plus, I’ll show you how to invite someone (like me!) to manage your campaign for you if you’re not ready to take it all on yourself.

Sound good? Let’s get started!

Step 1: Sign Up for Google Adverts

First things first: Before you can advertise on Google you need to get that Google Ads account up and running.

Sign Up for Google Ads
  1. Go to ads.google.com and click on the blue “Start now” button.
  2. Sign in with your Google account (or create one if you don’t have one).
  3. Enter your business details such as your business name and website URL (optional but helpful).

At this stage, Google might try to lead you straight into creating a campaign. But hold your horses—if you’re not ready for that just yet, you can skip it by clicking “Switch to Expert Mode” at the bottom of the page. This will give you the option to finish setting up the account without launching a campaign immediately.

Don’t Forget To Add Your Billing Information:

Now that your account is created, Google will need your billing details before running any ads.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Navigate to Billing & Payments: Go to the “Tools & Settings” menu in the upper right (the wrench icon), and under “Billing,” click on “Billing and Payments.”
  2. Add your Payment Method: Fill in your payment information, such as your credit card or bank account details. You can choose from multiple payment options, depending on your region.
  3. Select Billing Preferences: Decide how you’d like to be charged, either manually (prepaid) or automatically when your ads spend reaches a certain threshold.
  4. Save and Confirm: Once you’ve added your payment details and confirmed your billing preferences, click “Submit.”

Now, with your Google Ads account all set, we’re ready to move on to the important bit: inviting someone to manage your ads on your behalf.

Step 2: Invite a User to Advertise on Google on Your Behalf

Want to focus on running your business and let someone else handle your Google Ads? No problem! You can invite a trusted person (like me!) to access and manage your account. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Tools & Settings menu: Once inside your Google Ads account, find the wrench icon (top-right corner), and click on it.
  2. Under “Setup,” click on Access and Security: This will take you to the user permissions page where you can invite someone to collaborate on your account.
  3. Click the blue “+” icon: In the top left corner, you’ll see a plus sign. Click on that to invite a new user.
  4. Enter the email address of the person you want to invite. (If you’re inviting me to manage your campaign, this is where you’d type in my email.)
  5. Assign a role: There are different levels of access you can grant:
    • Admin: Full control over your account (good if you completely trust the person).
    • Standard: (Choose This One) Can manage campaigns but can’t change permissions or billing info.
    • Read-only: Can view everything but can’t make changes.
  6. Send the invite: Once you’ve chosen the role, click “Send Invitation”. The invited user will get an email, and once they accept, they’ll be able to log in and start managing your campaigns.

That’s it! You’ve successfully invited someone to take care of your Google Ads account on your behalf. Now, you can focus on other aspects of your business while the expert handles your ads.
